  • Account/User ID for all services:  please inform us of desired username and password.

Please note that the above information  is for remote access convenience. We do not recommend its use for general management of your e-mail account. Our server will delete any messages or contacts left there after 30 to 60 days. The inbound and outbound mail settings are configured separately.  Please note the important information below as it applies to your account.

Incoming Server

The server name is: pop3.surfcity.net

Outgoing Server (choose one of the three options below that applies to your Internet connection type)

1. If your computer is directly connected to SurfCity Networks DSL internet, then...

The Outgoing server name is: smtp.surfcity.net. (Secure Password /Server Authentication not required)

4. If your computer is directly connected to the internet using another ISP, (not SurfCity Networks), then...

The Outgoing server is:

Contact your system administrator or the technical help desk of your ISP for proper settings.

Technical Explanation:

In order to prevent malicious spamming, SMTP servers prohibit users from outside the network from sending mail. When you are connected to the internet through a SurfCity Networks DSL modem, you are considered "inside our network". Therefore, you can only use our SMTP servers to send mail when you are directly connected to our network (when using a computer connected to the DSL modem we provide you).  If you are connected to the internet through another provider (such as a dial-up account or on a hotel broadband) then you must use their SMTP server. In some circumstances, you may use the SurfCity Networks outgoing server with "server authentication." Contact us for details.

Using an alternate SMTP server will not affect your mail account, your inbound mailbox, or the e-mail information (such as the "from" address) in any way. In short, you can use any SMTP server you want as long you are not blocked from using it by the host.

(These instructions are provided as a courtesy. Please note that it is not the responsibility of the ISP to provide set up instructions for the many applications that exist. If you need assistance, contact your vendor. The parameters will be the same on all e-mail applications.)

  • Open your Explorer browser, click on “Tools” in the menu bar, click on “Internet Options,” click on “Connections” tab, and then on “Set up” button.

  • Follow instructions for the set up Wizard: choose last button for LAN, click “Next”, choose 2nd button for LAN, click “Next”, and for Automatic Configuration, uncheck both boxes if checked (they should both be clear), click “Next”, click “Yes” for setting up an Internet mail account, then click “Next”  and choose “Create new account”, click “Next” and enter your full name or any name as you wish it to appear when others receive your mail. Click “Next” and enter your assigned e-mail address. (Please note that you must contact us first to create your e-mail account.) Click next and your incoming mail should be listed as a Pop3 server. Into the Incoming mail field, enter your assigned incoming mail server address. Into the SMTP field enter your assigned outgoing mail server address. Click “Next” and enter your Account I.D. and password. If you wish your program to remember this password so that you don’t have to type it in every time, click the remember password box. Do not click the “Log on using secure password” or "My server requires authentication" boxes. This should bring you to the “Finish.”

  • If you find that old e-mail service prompts keep popping up when you try to open your mail program, open Outlook Express, choose “Tools”, choose “Accounts” and highlight and delete any services in the box that you do not want.

  • Should you find that your prompts are slightly different during mail set up, you may need to download an updated version of Explorer from the Microsoft website.

  • If more than one e-mail account is on a single computer, you may choose to create a unique user profile for each account, either within the Operating System, or as a separate Identity within the mail program. For a new user profile within the Operating System, open up "My Computer" on your desk top; select and open "Control Panel"; select and open "Passwords" and choose the "User Profile" tab to indicate your preferences. For creating a New Identity within Outlook Express, consult the instructions within that application, located on the menu bar: File/Identities/Add New Identity.
